| Consistency. The Hawkeyes are striving for it this season, and that's exactly what they've gotten. One look at their performance on the mat proves that very thing. Undefeated as of Tuesday, with a 17–0 record, Iowa is the nation's lone team without a blemish. Seven Hawkeyes are ranked in the top 5 of their respective weight class, highlighted by defending NCAA champion Brent Metcalf. The junior has not dropped a match since November 2007 – a span of 54 consecutive matches. Speaking of streaks, the Hawkeyes extended their dual match winning streak to 31 with a win over Illinois on Sunday. At the time, the Fighting Illini were ranked 7th in the country – the Big Ten's third-highest ranked team, behind Iowa and Ohio State. Iowa beat in-state rival Iowa State, which is now ranked No. 2, earlier this season in a match that set an NCAA dual meet attendance record with over 15,000 fans. And the fans haven't stopped coming to Carver-Hawkeye Arena since. So what's the key to the team's success? Listen to Ryan Morningstar to get an inside scoop. |
