Catching up with Minnesota's Hassan Mead
Jun 17 2009, 3:05 PM Topic: Minnesota
Hassan Mead has only been running in college for two years, but the long-distance runner is racking up the accolades at an impressive rate.

As a freshman, Mead was a two-time All-American and was the only freshman runner in the final heat of the 5,000 meter race at the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Championships. The Minneapolis native has kept his success on pace through his sophomore season. He finished fourth in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship and earned the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year for the outdoor season.

Before traveling to the Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Championships, the Gopher All-American hadn't lost a race! Mead ended his sophomore season by placing sixth in the 5,000 meters at the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Championships. Although it's years away, the dream of running in 2012 Summer Olympics is very much a reality.
