Kara Lentz's Bio: This former co-captain of the Michigan field hockey team played on three conference championship squads and in one NCAA Final Four before graduating in 2007. Assigned to cover field hockey for the Big Ten Network she follows many other sports. Raised in sports junkie family she played seven sports competitively and earned 15 varsity letters in high school. Zap her a question in the comments area about anything played on a field or court, in a pool, or with a ball, puck or basket.

Catching up with Maria Hernandez
Jul 1 2009, 3:44 PM Topic: Purdue
Even though Maria Hernandez graduated in May, it is a year of firsts for the Purdue golfer. Hernandez finished her golfing career at Purdue with a resume that will eventually land her in the Purdue Intercollegiate Hall of Fame.

The Pamplona, Spain native won the NCAA Championships individual title on May 22, becoming Purdue's only golfer to earn the honor. The three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, Hernandez earned the PING/NGCA National Player of the Year and was named the Honda Sports Award winner, as the top women's golfer in the nation, making her one of 12 candidates for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. Perhaps more impressive, Hernandez earned the Big Ten Suzy Favor Award, making her the first-ever golfer to win the prestigious honor.

This weekend boasts another first for the former Boilermaker: her first LGPA tournament. Hernandez, who turned professional after graduation, is competing in the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic LGPA tournament in Sylvania, Ohio, only to be followed by the US Women's Open on July 9–12. Boiler Up!

Here some of what Maria has to say in my interview with her.
