'Tip-off Special' to Showcase First Basketball Practices
CHICAGO – The Big Ten Network will capture the madness and hysteria associated with the beginning of another thrilling basketball season with 2 1/2 hours of live coverage during Big Ten Tonight: Basketball Season Tip-off Special at 9 PM ET on Friday.
Big Ten Tonight will be live on the campuses of Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue and Wisconsin for the teams' first official basketball practices. Host Rick Pizzo and analyst Jim Jackson will anchor coverage from network studios in Chicago.
The show will include live coverage from "Hoosier Hysteria" at Indiana, Michigan State's "Midnight Madness," "Tubby's Tipoff" at Minnesota, "Mackey Madness" at Purdue and Wisconsin's "Night of the Grateful Red."
"This is a special time of year," Pizzo said. "There's already great anticipation for the new season and this will be the fans' first chance to see some of the conference's new faces and emerging stars."
In addition to the studio coverage, the show will provide extended live look-ins from Bloomington, East Lansing, Minneapolis, West Lafayette and Madison for team introductions, three-point and dunk contests, performances from pep bands, and all the excitement that comes with a new basketball season.
On-site reporters will conduct live interviews with selected Big Ten players and coaches Tom Crean of Indiana, Tom Izzo of Michigan State, Tubby Smith of Minnesota, Matt Painter of Purdue and Bo Ryan of Wisconsin.
The Big Ten Network is the top destination for hoops fans this winter with 110 men's basketball games, including 60 conference match-ups and three Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Tournament games. Nearly all of those contests will be produced in high definition.
The network's televised non-conference slate tips off on Friday, Nov. 14, and some of the opponents will include 2008 NCAA Tournament participants such as Butler, Cornell, Gonzaga and Temple.
During the conference season, the network will typically air games on Tuesdays and Sundays as well as doubleheaders on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
