Dave Revsine |
On May 30, Dave Revsine became the Big Ten Network's first on-air hire. The Chicago native and Northwestern graduate spent the last 10 years at ESPN filling nearly every role for the network, including SportsCenter anchor and studio host for a wide variety of events. He also hosted ESPN Radio's College GameDay for the last six years and hosted ESPN Radio's coverage of several BCS Championship games.
"Dave brings a wealth of knowledge and a real passion for college sports to the network," Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman said. "When you couple his talent and experience with his being a Northwestern graduate and Chicago native, it's obvious why we see Dave as the ideal candidate to lead the network's on-air coverage."
Q: You will have the first words ever said on the Big Ten Network. Have you thought about what you'll say?
A: "I was thinking of going with 'one small step for man,' but that has already been used. Honestly, I hadn't thought about it until recently. But I know it's a big responsibility and I think it's kind of cool. Hopefully I'll come up with something borderline good."
Q: Moving back to Chicago, do you feel like you've come home?
A: "That was a big part of wanting to do this. It is a great fit. It's always been the conference that I've followed most, but a city I've never lived in as an adult. Everything came together."
Q: What should viewers expect from your studio show, 'Big Ten Tonight?'
A: "The beauty of covering one conference is that we'll be able to show everything that is going on, and not just on 'Big Ten Tonight.' I've always seen sports broadcasting like an onion. The job of the play-by-play person is to describe the onion. The analyst's job is to peel the onion and reveal what's inside. With the amount of time we'll have, we'll get to peel more layers. We will be able to provide the in-depth analysis that fans want, but can't get anywhere else simply because of time considerations."
Q: What's the best and worst part about being with a new network?
A: "There are too many 'best parts' to mention. I like the idea of being on the ground floor. I was able to be a part of that with ESPNNews but there was a blueprint already in place. Here, I play a part in helping design that blueprint. I don't see a real downside. I see this as an unbelievable opportunity."
Q: What is your favorite all-time sports movie?
A: "Tough call, but I would say 'Hoosiers.'"
