Network Deserves to be on Expanded Basic
The Big Ten universities and their teams are so much a part of their states it warrants the widespread distribution of the Big Ten Network on basic cable within the eight-state footprint of the Big Ten.
Big Ten Network has broad appeal regionally and nationally. It will air 350 - 400 live events along with more than 600 hours of original programming featuring academic, artistic and other on-campus activities from these universities.
If you live in the eight-state region that is Big Ten Country you currently receive 50 - 70 channels as part of your basic cable service and very few of them are local. The Big Ten Network is local and should be one of those channels.
In addition to its vast sports programming, the Big Ten Network will feature shows produced by students from Big Ten Universities that will showcase academic breakthroughs, honored alumni, current students, renowned faculty, as well as the academic challenges to name a few. People throughout the Big Ten states and across our country will have a chance to learn more about The Big Ten schools and the role they play. That is why we need the Big Ten Network and why everyone should have access to it on basic cable
It is true that not everyone will watch every program on the network – just as not everyone watches every expanded basic channel they receive, but the cable industry has decided that ""bundling"" channels is the best way to offer consumers the widest possible variety at the best price. In Big Ten Country, Big Ten Network should be one of those channels.
