PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, CANADA – University of Iowa sophomore swimmer Danielle Carty has been named Canadian team captain for the 2009 Canada Games to be held Aug. 15-29 in the Province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Carty will compete Aug. 24-28.
"This is a tremendous honor for Danielle and we are extremely proud of her achievement," said Iowa Assistant Swimming Coach Kirk Hampleman. ""We know Danielle will perform at the highest level and have a great Canada Games.""
Carty, a native of Ontario, Canada, recently competed at the 2009 Essais Mondiaux ROME World Championship Trials in Montreal. She placed fourth in the 50-meter backstroke and 11th in the 100-meter backstroke. She is currently ranked 46th in the world in the 50-meter backstroke.
