IOWA CITY – University of Iowa senior pitcher Brittany Weil has been named a second team all-America today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).  Weil is the 16th Iowa softball student-athlete to be named all-America, and earns the 27th all-America honor in school history.

Weil had an outstanding senior season, breaking seven school records and tying one more.  The Garden Grove, CA, native also tossed five no-hitters, including a perfect game.  Weil became the first Hawkeye to be named NFCA National Player of the Week, and was also named Big Ten Player of the Week four times.  She reached the 1,000 strikeout plateau as a senior, becoming just the eighth player in Big Ten history to reach that milestone.

Earlier this season, Weil was named both first team all-Big Ten and first team NFCA all-Midwest Region.  She was also chosen as the team's Most Valuable Player, earning that award in each of her four seasons at Iowa.

For the season, Weil went 26-12 with a 1.10 earned run average.  She struck out 339 batters to just 55 walks, and tossed 26 complete games with 14 shutouts.

Weil is the first Hawkeye all-American since Lisa Birocci was named to the third team in 2005.  Weil is also the fifth pitcher in Iowa school history to earn all-American honors (Lisa Birocci, Debbie Bilbao, Kristi Hanks and Karen Jackson).
