COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - Kelly Lawrence scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute and Liz Holby added a goal near the end of regulation as the Indiana women's soccer team knocked off No. 14 Tennessee in the Aggie Soccer Invitational on Friday night. The Hoosiers moved to 1-1-0 in notching their first win over a ranked opponent since topping then-No. 13 USC last season in the Hoosier Classic.

Lawrence got the Hoosiers on the board at the 68:29 mark after the Hoosiers drew a foul in the box to result in a penalty kick. Devon Beach controlled the ball inside the 20 and was taken down from behind to result in the PK. Lawrence blasted the ball past keeper Jaimel Johnson low to the right side to make it 1-0 midway through the second half. Hoosier head coach Mick Lyon was very impressed with his team's play, particularly that of his Canadian freshman.

"Devon just terrorized them," Lyon said. "She was close to scoring three or four times, missing by just inches. The only way they stopped her was by pulling her down in the box. A number of people played very well, though. Kirsta Kellin, Kelly Lawrence, Christie Kotynski was strong at the end, and having Liz Holby score a late goal was great for us. It was a very, very good win for the program."

From there, the Lady Vols picked up the pressure on the offensive end, unleashing seven shots on the Hoosier net from the 69th minute on. But time and again, Lauren Hollandsworth turned aside her opposition, keeping IU ahead by the narrowest of margins. Hollandsworth finished the game with six saves in notching her first shutout of the season.

In the 90th minute, Holby cemented the victory with her first goal of the campaign to put the Hoosiers up 2-0 with just 35 seconds to play in regulation. Kotynski took a goal kick for the Hoosiers and sent it long to her classmate past midfield. Holby beat the Tennessee pressure to go one-on-one with the keeper, and the junior fired the ball to the upper right corner to give the Hoosiers the win.

Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first half, though each squad had several chances. Junior Mick Ingram had four of the Lady Vols' 10 shots in the contest, but Hollandsworth turned aside all three of the shots that UT put on net. Melissa Speros picked up a yellow card in the 13th minute for Tennessee.

IU notched six shots of its own, three by Kotynski. Kotynski put two of her three shots on frame, but keeper Johnson stopped both opportunities. Holby added a pair of attempts in the opening 45 minutes.

The Lady Vols held a strong edge in offensive play throughout the match, outshooting the Hoosiers 24-16 in the contest. UT also took 11 corners in the contest, but Hollandsworth's six saves and timely defense from Indiana resulted in the shutout victory.

The Hoosiers will take on host Texas A&M on Sunday in the final day of the Aggie Soccer Invitational. The 13th-ranked Aggies fell to No. 2 North Carolina on Friday, 3-2 in the opening round of the Invitational.
