WASHINGTON, D.C. - - The University of Iowa field hockey team won at American University Saturday, 2-1.

"Sarah Drake and the seniors played great again," said Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum. "We competed for two complete games this weekend. Both were important performances heading into the Big Ten Tournament."

After a scoreless first half, the Hawkeyes took the lead in the 51st minute of play.  Freshman Sarah Drake chipped in a score off a deflection.  Senior Tricia Dean was credited with the assist.

American tied the match in the 67th minute as Savannah Graybill scored off a deflection.  Anne-Meike DeWiljes was credited with the assist.

With one minute remaining, Iowa was awarded a corner.  Moments later, senior Meghan Beamesderfer scored in the final minute, giving the Hawkeyes their second-straight last minute win.  Dean and Sarah Pergine assisted the goal.
