ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez says center David Molk is out for the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee against Penn State.

Rodriguez said Monday that Molk will not participate in spring drills because of the injury. Molk had returned to the lineup Saturday after missing four games with a broken foot.

The redshirt sophomore from Lemont, Ill., was a highly rated recruit and he started every game last season. He was regarded one of Michigan's best offensive linemen.

The eighth-place Wolverines (5-3, 1-3 Big Ten) play this week at Illinois (1-6, 0-5) and need a win to guarantee they will be eligible for a bowl after losing three straight conference games.
